Modifiers -25 and -59 are two of the most misunderstood and highly scrutinized payment modifiers. Failure to grasp the finer points of reporting the commonly used E/M modifier (-25) and procedure modifier (-59) can leave you open to costly audits and claims denials.

As COVID-19 abates and medical practices return to providing a significant volume of E/M services and in-office procedures, it’s paramount that you strengthen your modifier skills to ensure you’re not losing out on earned revenue.

During this 60-minute training session, you’ll gain clear direction on the rules surrounding accurate modifier -25 and -59 use, as well as a series of documentation examples to bring home the correct coding of these oft-used and oft-denied modifiers.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate accurate and consistent knowledge of modifier -25 and -59 claims reporting
  • Implement a system to maintain earned revenue for your same-day E/M claims (-25) and procedure claims (-59)
  • Understand how to avoid common payer challenges and keep your modifier-appended claims free of denials

Agenda

  • Find out how to accurately report modifiers -25 and -59 to maintain your earned revenue
  • Understand the payer policies that shape your use of modifiers -25 and -59, and discover tips to correctly meet payer requirements
  • Take home a score of documentation examples to help guide you through accurate modifier use
  • Learn why some payers have installed claims checks, such as prepay reviews, and how to overcome them

Who Should Listen?

  • Outpatient coders
  • Billers
  • Practice administrators
  • Compliance officers
  • Internal auditors
