Neonates may be small, but CDI record reviews for these patients can involve big challenges. Between specific coding guidelines and complex congenital conditions, CDI specialists reviewing these records need to be confident and knowledgeable in a variety of areas.

In addition to the particular complexities inherent in neonatal documentation, the conditions captured during the neonatal stage can affect these patients’ care for the rest of their lives. Getting the documentation and coding right is a matter of patient safety.

In this 90-minute program, our expert speakers—Leah Savage, MSN, RN, CCDS, and Jeffrey Morris, BSN, RN, CCDS—offer practical advice to tackle these complex reviews and effectively query and educate physicians.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the differences between neonatal and pediatric clinical conditions
  • Explain neonatal terminology and clinical concepts
  • Provide education to physicians regarding neonatal documentation needs
  • Describe official coding guidelines that apply to neonates
  • Apply evidence found in the medical record to formulate a compliant query
