Drug administration continues to generate confusion for coders and billers—as well as get the attention of CMS and third-party auditors. Reporting hospital intravenous injection and infusion services accurately and completely according to the CPTÒ hierarchy can be a challenge, along with navigating the rules around documentation, reporting hydration, knowing how to code multiple (and often simultaneous) infusions, and knowing what to do when infusion time is missing. Lack of understanding can lead to increased time in getting a bill out or other types of errors.

During this 90-minute webinar, expert speakers Jugna Shah, MPH, and Valerie Rinkle, MPA, will provide an overview refresher of drug administration coding and billing. Shah and Rinkle will cover commonly encountered challenges and discuss how to select the correct codes for reporting these services. They will also review the payment impact of 2019 OPPS reimbursement changes and go over the latest details on legal challenges to 340B drug discount reimbursement cuts and reporting requirements.

Coders will have a chance to apply their knowledge as Shah and Rinkle review frequently asked questions and work through some clinical scenarios to provide step-by-step advice on which codes to report. At the end of the program, they will hold a live Q&A to answer audience questions about drug administration coding and billing.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Determine the payment impact of 2019 OPPS reimbursement updates
  • Define CMS coverage and documentation requirements
  • Explain the CPT drug administration hierarchy and how to overcome common coding challenges
  • Apply the latest guidance to their own clinical scenarios
