Overview
This course explains how National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits are used by Medicare to prevent improper coding. It includes information on procedure-to-procedure, medically unlikely, and add-on code edits, and how coders can identify when these edits apply to CPT/HCPCS codes.
At the completion of this module, participants will be able to:
- Describe the three types of NCCI edits
- Determine where to find edit information for codes
- Decide when a modifier may be appropriate to override an edit
