Available ON-DEMAND
Presented on: Tuesday, November 29, 2022
Presented by: Shelley C. Safian, PhD, RHIA, HCISPP, CCS-P, COC, CPC-I
The emergency department (ED) is a fast-paced environment that presents unique challenges for coders and billers alike. EDs are open 24/7, 365 days a year, and they have specific standards for documenting evaluation and management (E/M) services. Coders and billers must be able to decipher complex documentation, interpret facility rules and regulations, and communicate with providers to reduce audit risk.
During this 60-minute webinar, Shelley C. Safian, PhD, RHIA, HCISPP, CCS-P, COC, CPC-I, will explain coding and reporting guidance for common ED procedures and services, such as musculoskeletal injuries, facility E/M coding, burns, and lacerations. CPT® and ICD-10-CM code assignment for surgical treatments including lacerations, debridement, and the removal of foreign bodies will also be reviewed. The speaker will address recently released ICD-10-CM external cause codes and discuss challenges unique to coding for ED environments. She will also answer questions from attendees during a live Q&A session after the presentation.
At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Implement the latest CPT and ICD-10-CM codes for ED encounters
- Describe the steps necessary to determine the proper level of medical decision-making for visits
- Adhere to Medicare guidance for reporting ED services
