Presented on: Wednesday, December 13, 2023 | 1:00–2:00 p.m. Eastern

Presented by: Nancy M. Enos, FACMPE, CPC-I, CPMA, CEMC, CPC emeritus

The AMA CPT® guidelines for split and shared billing are changing for next year—and now so are Medicare rules. In some ways these policies will become more closely aligned, but there are still unresolved questions. In this webinar, you will find out what you need to know about documenting and billing split/shared services in a facility setting, get answers to frequently asked questions, and then walk through sample notes to see how the rules will be applied.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Understand reporting requirements for split or shared E/M visits under the updated AMA E/M guidelines
  • Appropriately document and code split or shared facility-based visits based on time or medical decision-making
  • Grasp differences between Medicare policy and AMA CPT guidelines for billing split or shared services
  • Understand the guidelines for prolonged service billing

Agenda

  • Review 2024 changes in the CPT manual for hospital level-of-service billing based on medical decision-making or time
  • Learn Medicare’s policy for split or shared services from the final 2024 physician fee schedule
  • Review frequently asked questions about prolonged services
  • Walk through coding sample notes based on time and medical decision-making
  • Q&A
