J’non Griffin, president and owner of Home Health Solutions, LLC

The emergency preparedness requirement took the home health industry by storm in 2018. In the first year of the revised Conditions of Participation, many of the most common citations occurred as a result of agencies not complying with the emergency preparedness requirement. In fact, issues with emergency preparedness testing requirements were among the top standard-level deficiencies in 2018, and establishment of an emergency program was among the year’s top condition-level deficiencies.

During this 90-minute webinar, home health expert J’non Griffin will educate agencies about the emergency preparedness requirement overall and about the portion of the requirement involving testing. Then she’ll conduct two tabletop exercises that will help agencies understand how to perform these kinds of exercises on their own. The end of the webinar will feature a live Q&A session!

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the basics of the overall emergency preparedness requirement and how your agency can adjust its policies and procedures to achieve compliance
  • Understand how to take a deep dive into the emergency preparedness requirement’s testing expectations and how to adapt to comply
  • Identify the proper actions to take and key staff to involve during tabletop exercises
  • Learn how to avoid key mistakes during tabletop exercises

  • Review CMS’ emergency preparedness requirement
  • Identify top home health survey citations in 2018, including top issues with emergency preparedness
  • Examine what agencies must do to comply with CMS’ emergency preparedness testing requirements, including the need to participate in tabletop exercises
  • Participate in a tabletop exercise involving bad weather so agencies can better prepare for a true weather emergency
  • Participate in a tabletop exercise involving a disaster not related to weather so agencies can better prepare for that possibility
