Live Virtual Evaluation and Management Boot Camp—Professional Version™

Course Overview

A target of considerable change in recent years, the E/M code set continues to see fine-tunings and tweaks. Understanding the latest changes is critical to your coding and revenue streams. Discover updates from CMS and AMA regarding office visit codes, inpatient/observation services, counting time and prolonged services, and contributory medical decision making (MDM) elements.

Is your organization addressing these changes? This class will bring you up to speed!

The Live Virtual Evaluation and Management Boot Camp—Professional Version teaches coders, billers, auditors, and practice managers how to interpret documentation relative to national carrier guidelines, apply guidelines accurately, and ensure appropriate E/M category and level assignment.

In this in-depth class taught by our nationally recognized coding instructors, you will learn how to:

  • Select the correct E/M codes based on the documentation provided
  • Evaluate the documentation requirements for all E/M levels
  • Apply appropriate modifiers to E/M codes
  • Analyze differences between CMS and AMA guidelines for E/M services
  • Understand "teaching physician" documentation rules
  • Identify the three options of how to accurately bill for non-physician practitioners (NPPs)

Ensure your E/M coding stays up to date by not only learning what is new for CY 2024, but also having a critical understanding of which codes these new guidelines apply.

Starting with the changes implemented in CY 2021, the key components traditionally used for selecting many categories of E/M services underwent a major overhaul based on input from CMS and the AMA (American Medical Association). These sweeping changes are also going to affect all the remaining E/M categories previously based on key components as of CY 2023. Level selection will be based on either time or medical decision making. Learn what activities count as time and obtain a detailed understanding of what three elements are used for overall medical decision making.

This intensive course goes beyond the basics and dives right into the many gray areas of E/M to make sense of conflicting information between CMS and the AMA’s guidance. Armed with this information, you will be able to:

  • Tackle the subjectivity associated with the most commonly reported (and audited!) CPT® codes—E/M services
  • Accurately interpret the rules

Our experienced instructors lead this interactive class that includes practical scenarios and plenty of time for questions answered.

Who should attend?
This course is ideal for anyone who either selects E/M codes or verifies E/M codes, as well as coders who verify either pre-bill or post-bill the accuracy of the codes selected by providers. It is also useful for coders on the payer side who verify the accuracy of the codes submitted for reimbursement.
