Introduction to Evaluation and Management

Overview

Evaluation and management codes (E/M) comprise approximately 40% of all billed professional services. During this introductory module, you will learn the basics of E/M code assignment including how to distinguish between “new” and “established” patients and accurate assignment of E/M associated modifiers.

At the completion of this module, the participant will be able to:

• Understand the basics of E/M documentation
• Identify which providers may report E/M codes
• Describe the difference between new and established patients for proper category selection
• Apply proper E/M guidelines for group practices and on-call physicians
• Identify the different ways to report for telehealth services
• Assign E/M-associated modifiers accurately
