CMS envisions big changes to critical care codes 99291 and 99292 in 2022. Attend this webinar to discover what’s in store and be ready to file comments in response to the physician fee schedule by the deadline of September 13.

After CMS withdrew critical care billing policy from the Medicare Claims Processing Manual earlier this year, the agency released significant policy updates to the services in the proposed 2022 Medicare physician fee schedule, released July 13.

With just a few short months until new policies take hold on January 1, medical practices should heed the proposed changes and be ready to adapt to new billing policies and restrictions. For instance, CMS proposes to allow practices to use split/shared billing for critical care services, potentially opening up significant revenue opportunity.

Because critical care codes are linked to more than $1 billion in payments annually, massive amounts of revenue hang in the balance. This webinar will cover the current critical care policies and compare them with the slate of changes that CMS envisions, presenting a chance to secure your revenue today and tomorrow.

Expert speaker Betsy Nicoletti, CPC, will cover the full array of changes contained in the Medicare physician fee schedule, present real-life scenarios to demonstrate how practices can code and bill the services, as well as answer participant questions during a live Q&A.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Describe current billing rules and proposed policy changes contained in the physician fee schedule
  • Explain how split/shared billing works under proposals for critical care services starting in 2022
  • Understand key billing changes proposed in the rule, including concurrent care episodes and restrictions during global periods

  • Discover how CMS plans to revamp critical care billing policies in 2022
  • Review the rules of the withdrawn policies, still in effect, pending finalization of new policies
  • Learn about the proposed split/shared policy for critical care services
  • Find out how CMS plans to deal with concurrent care episodes
  • Gain updates on proposed restrictions, such as a ban on critical care services during a global surgical period
  • Secure critical care revenue in 2022 and beyond
  • Q&A
