Down to Earth: Real Talk About Credentialing Systems

Donna Goestenkors, CPMSM, EMSP and Yesenia Servin, CPMSM, PESC
While the healthcare system is relentlessly advancing and evolving, credentialing systems can remain mired in the Stone Age. Join Team Med Global and explore a new era of credentialing, one in which redesigned systems create efficiencies that deliver value throughout the organization. During this session, learn indicators of an outdated credentialing system, key elements of a redesigned credentialing system, and efficiency benchmarks that can be used to evaluate value.

Optimize Revenue with Unification of Provider Enrollment, Credentialing, and Privileging
Lisa Velasco, MSM, LPTA, FMSP, CPMSM, CPCS
Organizations strive to have quality physicians who make a positive impact on revenue and patient satisfaction. Yet, organizations risk losing revenue while waiting for physicians to get credentialed with hospitals and health plans due to a complex, time consuming, and duplicative credentialing process. This solutions-oriented presentation will provide specific tips and tools to remove the hassle factors for physicians by streamlining processes, gaining operational efficiencies, and speeding up turn-around times, which will result in cost savings, positive impact to revenue, and physician and patient satisfaction.

Congrats, You’re the Boss! Now What?
LaShawna Brown, CPMSM, CPCS
Credentialers often find themselves in the roll of leadership without much training or leadership experience. The task is exciting and daunting; and where to begin can be a stumbling block. This session will outline how to step into leadership, identify your team, build relationships, foster effective communication, set expectations for your team and yourself, and identify career growth opportunities.

Day 2

1 hour
Credentialing Committee Vetting of State Medical Board Information: Applying the Right Diligence
Todd Sagin, MD, JD and Janet Wilson, BS, FMSP, CPMSM, CPCS
State medical boards vary in the speed with which they post actions against licensees, the completeness of the information posted, and the length of time in which they keep information posted on their websites. In many cases it may not be sufficient to simply confirm whether an applicant has an active license. This session will highlight the importance and value of querying information from a state medical board in a manner that yields necessary information. This session will also explore the reasonable burden to put on credentialing staff to seek out the complete and accurate information from state medical board sources.

1 hour
Ignore, Manage, Report? How do You Address Physicians Who Resign With Red Flags?
Janet Wilson, BS, FMSP, CPMSM, CPCS
Do you have physicians who resign with red flags in their file whom you are tracking/trending? Do you have a policy that requires you address red flags before allowing the physician to resign? Do you have language in a policy or bylaws that will not allow a practitioner to reapply for membership/privileges if they resigned with outstanding red flags in their file? Join us for a collaborative review and discussion of best practice processes to consider for managing situations when a physician resigns with unresolved red flags in their file.

1 hour
When Your Only Choice is a Problematic Applicant: Recruiting & Credentialing in the Face of a Growing Physician Shortage
Todd Sagin, MD, JD
The current physician shortage will worsen significantly in the coming decade. The applicants recruited to many hospitals in the coming years will present with problematic backgrounds. These applicants may have been disqualified in the past, but in today’s competitive recruitment environment they are often an institution’s only viable option to cover needed services. This session will review tactics for rigorously vetting a problematic background and documentation considerations regarding the efforts undertaken. Learn options for offering conditional appointment and enumeration of the reasonable options for robust initial FPPE and ongoing monitoring.

30 minutes
