Presented by: Adriane Martin, DO, FACOS, CCDS

ICD-10-PCS coding for heart failure and associated shock requires a solid understanding of cardiac disease processes and surgical descriptions included in operative reports. Coders must be able to visualize complicated cardiac structures and select appropriate body part values based on the number of distinct sites treated.

Join expert Adriane Martin, DO, FACOS, CCDS, for this 60-minute webinar as she discusses cardiac pathophysiology and ICD-10-PCS coding for surgeries used to treat end-stage heart failure and cardiogenic shock. She will begin by reviewing physiological processes associated with heart failure, then cover ICD-10-PCS reporting for heart surgeries that involve intra-aortic balloon pumps, Impella® heart pumps, and ventricular assist devices. The presentation will be followed by a live Q&A.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Understand physiological processes associated with end-stage heart failure and cardiogenic shock
  • Discern indications for and functionality of intra-aortic balloon pumps, Impella heart pumps, and ventricular assist devices
  • Select the most specific ICD-10-PCS codes for therapeutic procedures involving these devices
