2019 CPT Update: Prepare for New Coding, Documentation Requirements

Presented on:
Thursday, November 29, 2018
1:00–3:00 P.M. Eastern

Presented by:
Peggy S. Blue, MPH, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CEMC

Sponsored by:
JustCoding

On January 1, coders must be prepared to report hundreds of new CPT® codes covering a wide variety of specialties, as well as new E/M, medicine, and laboratory codes. This year’s update includes more than 200 new codes along with dozens of revised and deleted codes. Many of the changes in the medicine and pathology and laboratory sections—along with new Category III codes—may require coders and physicians to dig into guideline and documentation requirements for procedures, devices, and drugs they are unfamiliar with. Join expert speaker Peggy S. Blue, MPH, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CEMC, as she guides participants through the changes and explains what they’ll need to know in order to accurately report codes and reduce the chance of denials.

Blue will review each section of the CPT Manual and highlight pertinent details for coders, including updates for radiology, cardiovascular, and musculoskeletal codes. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask Blue questions about the changes in a live Q&A.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Apply new CPT codes for 2019
  • Review guideline revisions as well as revised CPT code descriptions for 2019
  • Identify deleted, revised, and new CPT codes for 2019
  • Improve coding accuracy to reduce denials
