Modifier use remains an area of scrutiny for auditors and can be confusing for coders when CMS updates NCCI edits and guidance. Understanding the differences between CMS’ procedure-to-procedure edits, Medically Unlikely Edits (MUE), and MUE Adjudication Indicators (MAI) can ensure claims are coded and billed accurately the first time.

During this program, expert speakers Sarah L. Goodman, MBA, CHCAF, COC, CCP, FCS, and Susan E. Garrison, CHCA, CHCAS, CCS-P, CHC, CPAR, CPC, COC, will describe CMS’ updated guidance on modifier -59 use for services, including the changes for timed services, and explain how to ensure charges are accounted for as CMS increases the number of bundled services.

At the conclusion of this on-demand program, participants will be able to:

  • Apply CMS’ updated NCCI guidance for 2016
  • Account for all charges in bundled services
  • Report modifier -59 and know when to report the -X{EPSU} modifiers according to the latest guidance
  • Identify procedure-to-procedure edits and MUEs
