Virtual Education Curtain Call: Behind the Scenes of Star-Studded CDI Programsis a four-day, online, educational event focused on highlighting exceptional CDI programs. Its sessions offer insight into both clinically significant record review priorities as well as programmatic best practices and areas for innovative CDI approaches.

Thanks to ACDIS’ sponsors and exhibitors, attendees of this free event will hear from cutting-edge CDI programs about their organizational journey and have the opportunity to learn from and exchange ideas with a broad network of peers and sponsors. Attendees will gain insight from the unique expertise of industry thought leaders heading up some of the most successful CDI-related organizations in the country.

ACDIS has take-home educational opportunities for every CDI professional. The event offers up to 11 continuing education credits for the Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) and CCDS-Outpatient (CCDS-O) credential.

Clarissa Barnes, MD

Clarissa Barnes, MD, is a physician advisor for the Avera Health System. She is an internist currently practicing as a hospitalist. She comes to the role with a particular interest in creating new ways to educate physicians and CDI/UR staff as well as an enthusiasm for bringing people together to try to learn from each other and create system initiatives.

Alvin Gore

Alvin Gore, MD

Alvin Gore, MD, is the UR director at St. Joseph Health, Northern California region, and a board-certified family physician. He is responsible for all aspects of the physician advisor role, including all UR processes, denial prevention and management, CDI projects, physician education and outreach, cost-of-care reduction, and population health projects.

Robin Jones

Robin Jones, RN, BSN, MHA/Ed, CCDS

Robin Jones, RN, BSN, MHA/Ed, CCDS, is the corporate CDI director for AdventHealth in Tampa, Florida. She began her CDI career with program implementation at a suburban hospital in Ohio. Over the years, Jones advanced to supervisor, and then to corporate leadership with oversight of 17 facilities. In 2017, Jones moved to Tampa to take her current role, where she oversees the CDI programs at nine facilities in the West Florida division, encompassing a CDI team of more than 40 staff members. Jones is a frequent speaker and contributor to ACDIS, serving on its  ACDIS Advisory Board, and earned the CDI Professional of the Year Award in 2020. 

Holly Kalua

Holly Kalua, BSHA, BSN, RN, CRCR

Holly Kalua, BSHA, BSN, RN, CRCR, is the system CDI director for Providence St. Joseph Health, headquartered in Renton, Washington. She has 11 years’ experience in CDI, 14 years in case management/utilization review, and 20 years in healthcare revenue cycle operations. She is responsible for CDI operations in Texas and the northern and southern California regions. She currently serves on the ACDIS Leadership Council.

Lee Anne Landon

Lee Anne Landon, RN, BSN, CCMC, CCDS

Lee Anne Landon, RN, BSN, CCMC, CCDS, is the network manager of CDI at HonorHealth in Scottsdale, Arizona. She has more than 12 years of CDI experience. Her current CDI program includes all payer, MS- and APR-DRG, quality, and denials management reviews, and it collaborates closely with the coding, quality, and case management departments. Landon is an active member of her local chapter of ACDIS, serving as co-chair for two years. She has presented at previous ACDIS conferences and is a two-time ACDIS Leadership Exchange alumna.

Kaitlin Loos

Kaitlin Loos, RN, BSN

Kaitlin Loos, RN, BSN, is a CDI auditor for Legacy Health in Portland, Oregon, joining her facility’s CDI program in 2017 and moving to an auditor role in 2018. Her prior experience includes critical care and serving as an abdominal transplant coordinator.

Laurie Prescott

Laurie Prescott, RN, MSN, CCDS, CCDS-O, CDIP, CRC

Laurie Prescott, RN, MSN, CCDS, CCDS-O, CDIP, CRC, is the CDI education director at HCPro, a Simplify Compliance brand, in Middleton, Massachusetts. She is an instructor for the CDI Boot Camps, an ACDIS subject matter expert, and a member of the CCDS-O Certification Committee and the ACDIS Advisory Board. Prescott is a frequent speaker on webinars and the author of The Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist’s Complete Training Guide and the ACDIS Pocket Guide. She has been in the nursing field since 1985.

Stacy Reck

Stacy Reck, MBA, RHIA, CDIP

Stacy Reck, MBA, RHIA, CDIP, is the director of CDI and utilization review at Avera Health with responsibility for strategic and operational planning, design, implementation, and oversight of systemwide standardization of CDI and UR programs. With more than 15 years of experience in HIM, she has led initiatives including ICD-10 implementation, standardization including benchmarking, and system initiatives involving physician education. Reck is a member of the 2019–2020 ACDIS Leadership Council and currently serves on the SDHIMA board as director of education.

Molly Siebert

Molly Siebert, RHIA, CCDS

Molly Siebert, RHIA, CCDS, is a CDI specialist at Legacy Health in Portland, Oregon. Prior to joining her facility’s CDI program in 2013, Siebert worked in HIM since 1975 conducting Medicare reviews. Her experience includes working in hospitals on quality, trauma and cancer registries, systemwide EHR development, and HIM operations management. Siebert is past president of the Oregon Northwest ACDIS local chapter, ACDIS Chapter Advisory Board member, and ACDIS Scholarship Committee member. She has been active in professional associations and civic groups, has served on the OrHIMA board, and participated in two AHIMA work groups from 2007 to 2009.

Madhu Subherwal

Madhu Subherwal, MHA, MBBS, CCDS

Madhu Subherwal, MHA, MBBS, CCDS, is the CDI manager at Torrance (California) Memorial Medical Center. After completing her master’s thesis, she was approached by Southern California Kaiser Permanente in 2012 to help create a CDI program for their 13 regional hospitals. At the end of implementation, she was given the opportunity to manage the program at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. Currently co-chair for the California ACDIS chapter, Subherwal is also a member of ACDIS' Leadership Council and its 2019/2020 Conference Committee.

Mary Elizabeth “M.E.” VanGelder, RN, BSN, MEd, CCDS, RHIT is a network CDI educator at HonorHealth, a five-hospital network in Phoenix, Arizona. She began her CDI career in 2014 at Mayo Clinic Hospital and now provides physician and staff education across all of HonorHealth’s facilities. With 30 years of nursing experience, including five years in case management, VanGelder is a frequent ACDIS speaker and contributor. She is a member of the HIM Advisory Council for Phoenix College, a co-chair of the Arizona ACDIS chapter, and a previous co-chair of the ACDIS CDI Educator Networking Group.
