Meet the Speakers

Jennifer Cowel

Jennifer Cowel, RN, MHSA, is CEO of Patton Healthcare Consulting, Inc., and a patient safety, accreditation, and regulatory compliance consultant. She joined Patton Healthcare Consulting as vice president and principal in 2007. Previously, she held a variety of leadership and management roles during more than 17 years with The Joint Commission, including director of service operations and hospital surveyor representative on the Standards Improvement Initiative. She is the author of two reference books for both domestic and international hospital managers on practical application and use of statistics and has authored numerous articles on accreditation and regulatory compliance. She is also a frequent lecturer on patient safety, Joint Commission compliance, and the use of data to improve performance. Prior to The Joint Commission, she was a senior consultant with Anderson Consulting in Chicago. Cowel received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana University and her Master of Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Kathleen Good

Kathleen Good, MSN, RN, is an associate at Patton Healthcare Consulting. Before joining Patton, she worked at The Joint Commission for more than 17 years, holding such key positions as surveyor for the hospital and homecare accreditation programs, field director for surveyor management and development, and surveyor designee on the Surveyor Advisory Committee. In addition, Good has served as a content expert reviewer for Joint Commission publications and is trained as a Yellow Belt. A professional nurse with more than 38 years of diverse experience in the healthcare industry, Good has held a variety of leadership and management roles for healthcare organizations, including director of clinical services, regional director of a high-risk pregnancy management program, and national director of infusion therapy operations. Her expertise also includes pediatric services as well as work in end-stage renal disease and dialysis programs. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her Master of Nursing Administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Ernie Allen

Ernest E. Allen, ARM, CSP, CPHRM, CHFM, is account executive in the patient safety department of The Doctors Company, Northeast Region, and works out of the Ohio office. He also is a private consultant on life safety at hospitals across the country. Allen has more than 35 years of healthcare experience, including working as a Joint Commission life safety surveyor and serving as a safety and security director at a 500-bed hospital in Cleveland. He is a frequent speaker on life safety/environment of care, including numerous programs with Simplify Compliance brands DecisionHealth and HCPro.
