 Reginald M. Hislop III, PhD

The use of contracted therapists in your SNF immediately increases your citation and criminal risk in terms of billing and liability. In this 90-minute webcast, expert Reginald M. Hislop III, PhD, discusses how to limit such risk under Medicare due to improper treatment and coding of your therapy contractor. Hislop outlines how to implement a shared risk arrangement with your therapy contractor while outlining a strategic way to monitor such risk within your SNF.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the risk of using contractors to provide core care services under Medicare Part A
  • Structure the contractual relationship between therapy contractors and the SNF to integrate a shared risk arrangement
  • Adequately monitor the billing and compliance risk areas between the SNF and the therapy contractor
  • Determine whether using or converting to an in-house or hybrid (managed) therapy program/service is feasible

  • The compliance risk, particularly billing, inherent to Medicare Part A for a SNF that uses therapy contractors (what the actual risk is in terms of billing, liability, and potential criminal liability)
  • The flaws in the current therapy contracts that most SNFs don’t understand and don’t challenge—the “indemnity clauses” (what these clauses actually mean)
  • The nature of bad actors under Medicare and the False Claims Act—the duty to monitor and supervise that all SNFs have (how to develop adequate systems)
  • The overall compliance risk—why billing is only one potential problem (survey/certification, care, labor laws, etc.).

Who Should Listen?

SNFs or SNFs within CCRCs that presently have an outside therapy contract provider or are looking to enter a therapy contractor relationship
