Certified Coder Boot Camp®—Inpatient Online Version

Overview

With ICD-10, inpatient coding is even more complex.

The Certified Coder Boot Camp®—Inpatient Online Version is an intensive coding education course that will make coders proficient in ICD-10-CM/PCS coding and MS-DRG assignment for hospital inpatient facility services.

The course goes beyond explaining basic DRG classification. Coders leave class ready to:

  • Apply inpatient coding guidelines
  • Accurately assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes and MS-DRGs
  • Query physicians more effectively

We’re not like other coding classes. We have been teaching inpatient coding for more than a decade! The Certified Coder Boot Camp—Inpatient Online Version uses a successful and proven method for teaching inpatient coding fundamentals:

  • Emphasis on practical exercises: Attendees complete multiple inpatient case studies and operative reports based on real medical records so they fully understand the impact of diagnosis/procedure code assignment on MS-DRG assignment.
  • Ask the Expert: With direct access to our nationally recognized instructors through our Ask the Expert feature, attendees can ensure they have a complete understanding of code assignment.
  • Rules-based learning: Our instructors only use recognized source authorities, such as the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reportingand the AHA’s Coding Clinic for ICD-10-CM/PCS®, in course materials.
  • Experience: All of our instructors have at least 15 years of inpatient coding experience. They know exactly what coders need to learn and how to present complex coding topics in an easy-to-understand manner.

For coders:
Skilled inpatient coders are in high demand as many hospitals are expanding their coding teams following ICD-10 implementation. Whether you’re a novice or a veteran coder, the ICD-10 system is new to everyone—so now is the perfect time to learn inpatient coding!

The Certified Coder Boot Camp—Inpatient Online Version not only teaches you everything you need to know to be an inpatient coder, but also provides several professional benefits:

  • Enhance your career potential and growth—employers are looking for coders with accurate inpatient coding skills

What material does the course cover?
To view the course outline, click on "Course Outline" above.

Does the course require any previous experience or training?
Because of the fast-paced nature of the course, it is highly recommended that Certified Coder Boot Camp—Inpatient Online Version participants have at least one year of coding-related experience. While prior inpatient coding experience is helpful, this course is also designed for individuals with outpatient coding experience (such as CPCs or COCs) who are interested in enhancing their coding skills.

Does completion of the course lead to any formal certification?
We anticipate that many of the Certified Coder Boot Camp—Inpatient Online Version course participants will, at some point, sit for the Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) exam offered by the American Health Information Management Association. While the Certified Coder Boot Camp—Inpatient Online Version should be helpful in preparing for the CCS exam, CCS candidates should be aware that the exam also covers topics other than inpatient coding, notably outpatient CPT coding and Medicare reimbursement. Consequently, candidates will need additional training/preparation beyond the Certified Coder Boot Camp—Inpatient Online Version. CCS candidates may also want to consider taking our Certified Coder Boot Camp (focused on CPT coding) and our Medicare Boot Camp—Hospital Version (focused on Medicare reimbursement for hospital services).
