MEET THE SPEAKERS

Thomas B. Valuck, MD, MHSA, JD, medical officer and senior advisor in the Center for Medicare Management at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Dr. Valuck advises CMS leadership on clinical and policy issues related to Medicare's payment systems and quality initiatives, particularly pay for performance. He recently served as director of CMS' temporary special program office for value-based purchasing, which was responsible for the initial implementation of Medicare physician and hospital pay-for-performance initiatives.

Dale W. Bratzler, DO, MPH, is the medical director of the Hospital Interventions Quality Improvement Organization Support Center and the Hospital Quality of Care Measures Special Study at the Oklahoma Foundation for Medical Quality. In these roles, he provides clinical and technical support for local and national quality improvement initiatives including the Medicare National Pneumonia Project and the National Surgical Care Improvement Project. Dr. Bratzler is a Past President of the American Health Quality Association and was recently appointed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services to the National Advisory Council for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
