Presented by: Margie Scalley Vaught, CPC, COC, CPC-I, CCS-P, MCS-P, ACS-EM, ACS-OR

Learn the unique impact that orthopedic surgery practices face from the 2021 E/M office visit guidelines, including how to navigate the revised medical decision-making (MDM) table and when it makes more sense to document visits based on time. The coding and documentation overhaul is just months away. The revamped E/M office visit guidelines take effect January 1, 2021 and will create significant new rules for your office visit codes (99202–99215). During this webinar, you’ll spend time reviewing definitions from the new guidelines, including key changes to the three elements of MDM and how they will affect your typical orthopedic office visits. Being prepared will help maintain your vital E/M revenue stream.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Determine whether time or MDM is the best way to code a given orthopedic office visit
  • Identify the services that are included in a time-based office visit
  • Understand how and when to report the new prolonged service code as well as how split/shared office visits will work
  • Navigate the revised MDM table to quickly and accurately determine the office visit level
  • Be ready to identify potential audit triggers based on the new guidelines
