Presented on:

Presented by: Theresa A. Lang, RN, BSN, WCC

Under the Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM) effective October 1, 2019, the ICD-10-CM code assigned in MDS item I0200B will determine which of the 10 clinical categories a patient is assigned to upon admission. Improper coding may result in underpayment or possible overpayment, leading to takebacks upon medical review.

In this hour-long webinar, MDS expert Theresa Lang, RN, BSN, WCC, will help SNF attendees understand how to choose accurate primary diagnosis codes using the ICD-10 system so correct reimbursement can be achieved. Attendees will also learn how to avoid return-to-provider codes and how to make corrections if a claim is submitted with an invalid code.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the 10 clinical categories used in PDPM
  • Provide examples of how miscoding could result in significant payment reductions
  • Discuss the role of therapy and nursing in the ICD-10-CM coding process
  • State how the clinical crosswalk tables can assist a facility in selecting the primary ICD-10-CM code
  • Describe the correction process needed when a facility receives a return-to-provider code due to an invalid diagnosis code

  • Role of ICD-10-CM coding in PDPM
