The ICD-10-PCS guidelines for reporting multiple procedures could trip up inpatient coders because some of them differ from current coding practice. ICD-10-PCS includes guidelines specifically for reporting multiple procedures, but coders also need to understand additional related guidelines in other sections.

Jennifer E. Avery, CCS, CPC-H, CPC, CPC-I, AHIMA Approved ICD-10 Trainer, will guide you through the new rules for reporting multiple procedure and will use case studies to illustrate how to apply those guidelines. In addition, she will highlight common documentation shortcomings.

At the end of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the multiple procedures coding guidelines
  • Apply concepts to common inpatient procedural coding scenarios
  • Determine which areas need improved documentation
  • Identify concerns about guideline application and communicate these concerns to the Cooperating Parties
