2020 IPPS Final Rule: The Next Step Toward Addressing Inequities in Inpatient Care - On-Demand

loyal listener library

Presented on: Thursday, September 12, 2019

Presented by: Judith L. Kares, Esq.

The 2020 inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS) proposed rule included potentially massive changes to wage index methodologies and complication and comorbidity (CC)/major complication and comorbidity (MCC) designations. It also included proposals regarding payment factors, quality initiatives, and disproportionate share hospital updates. Most IPPS provisions will go into effect October 1, so depending on which proposals are finalized, health systems will have to act fast to ensure IPPS changes are implemented accordingly and compliantly.

During this 90-minute session, expert speaker Judith L. Kares, Esq., will outline the most significant changes identified in the FY 2020 IPPS final rule, including payment rates, reporting measures, new technologies, operating and capital rates, and changes to quality and interoperability programs.

  • Explanation of key changes in the 2020 IPPS final rule
  • Discussion of implementation strategies and challenges related to the 2020 IPPS final rule
  • Strategies for calculating 2020 IPPS payment
At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:
  • Identify key changes under the FY 2020 IPPS final rule and compare them to prior existing requirements
  • Develop strategies to implement FY 2020 IPPS requirements efficiently and effectively
  • Identify updated payment factors and related policies necessary to calculate FY 2020 IPPS operating and capital MS-DRG payments, prior to certain adjustments
  • Understand inpatient quality and other adjustments and their impact on calculation of the total adjusted FY 2020 IPPS MS-DRG payment
